CHAPTER ELEVEN

“What’s all this?” Tassie asked as she, Baxter, and Gus walked into Krystal’s shop that afternoon and spotted the stack of Bluewater Bay High School yearbooks on the table.

Ashton hurried over to greet them as fast as his little legs could move, clearly happy to see Baxter and Gus. Tassie leaned down to pet the Frenchie, laughing when he licked her hand. Abby had said she’d close up so Tassie could leave early to meet up with Krystal and Lucy about the class reunion. Lucy was already there, sitting at the table with Krystal and sipping on what looked like iced ginger tea from Hug in a Mug.

Krystal grinned. “Inspiration! I thought we might need to flip through them to give us some idea for the theme. Because like I keep saying, we can’t do anything else—like plan the menu—until we decide on that.”

Tassie unhooked Baxter and Gus from their respective harnesses so they could play with Ashton, then pulled out the chair across from Lucy and sat down. She hadn’t even thought about the menu. Was it supposed to match the theme?

“Were you able to book the Bayside Inn yet?” she asked.

Krystal nodded. “I did! We’ve got the ballroom and a block of rooms at a great price if anyone wants to stay on site.”

“That’s a great idea,” Lucy said.

Krystal flipped open the thick binder on the table in front of her. Whoa. Where had that come from? Tassie hadn’t even noticed it. She was afraid to see what was inside it, though. The thing was as big as a dictionary.

“So, I’ve come up with some more ideas for themes,” Krystal said.

Wow. She definitely had too much time on her hands, Tassie thought.

“What about a cowboy/cowgirl theme?” Krystal asked. “We could have a mechanical bull and serve barbecue.”

Lucy caught Tassie’s eye, a panicked look on her face. Krystal saw it too because she quickly flipped through a few pages.

“Okay, so no mechanical bull.” She looked at them. “How do you feel about a circus theme?”

Tassie was pretty sure she was wearing the same horrified expression Lucy was at that suggestion.

“No acrobats and clowns either then.” Krystal turned more pages. “You guys are no fun.”

Lucy shared a look with Tassie. “You don’t really have a circus theme in that binder, do you?”

Krystal smiled mischievously. “No. I’m just messing with you guys. You should have seen the looks on your faces. They were priceless.”

Tassie shook her head with a laugh. “What else do you have in that monster binder? Legit ideas only this time.”

“Legit ideas only,” Krystal promised. “What about a masquerade party?”

Lucy didn’t immediately toss cold water on the suggestion. Tassie had to admit she was intrigued. Masquerade parties were kind of mysterious.

Then again, did she need more mystery in her life when she was busy solving murders?

“I don’t know,” Lucy finally said. “We might have trouble recognizing everyone as it is. Do you really want to add masks to the mix?”

“It could be fun,” Tassie said.

Krystal looked at each of them in turn.
